Limbaugh distorted Tomlinson resignation: "He was trying to get some conservative programming on NPR and PBS"

On the November 8 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh claimed that former Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) chairman Kenneth Y. Tomlinson had been forced off the CPB board of directors "because he was trying to get some conservative programming on NPR [National Public Radio] and PBS [Public Broadcasting Service]." But Limbaugh ignored the fact that Tomlinson's resignation -- which CPB characterized as a mutual decision -- came immediately after the board received the conclusions of a six-month investigation by the CPB inspector general, which are expected to be highly critical of the former chairman. The probe was launched in response to allegations that Tomlinson violated both federal law and corporation policies in his efforts to correct perceived liberal bias in public radio and television broadcasts.

re: Limbaugh distorted Tomlinson resignation: "He was trying to get some conservative programming on NPR and PBS"

So, is this story "nothing" or a "throwaway" like the Rush Gas Price Lie???

I think not.

re: Limbaugh distorted Tomlinson resignation: "He was trying to get some conservative programming on NPR and PBS"

I don't know about you but I get tired of the constant stream of "trivial" lies from Rush that MMFA documents on an almost daily basis.

I am quite sure that this doesn't in any way show a pattern of behaviour from Rush.

Not at all.

Absolutely not.

Impossible.

rush is talking about conservatives being kept off the air? golly, they get no air time at all. of course rush is scared witless to have a liberal on his show. not that his dittoheads need the other side. rush gives them all they need to know and says don't listen to anyone but me. the term for that is, i think...lemming.

It is well known that NPR and PBS strive to maintain an OBJECTIVE, JOURNALISTIC point of view. Unfortunately, to Rush and his ilk, any position that does not parrot the conservative party line word-for-word is "liberal" A centrist viewpoint simply doesn't exist. You're either with them or against them. My way or the highway. Conservatives good, liberals bad. That is what I would call "extremist" in this context.

Maybe we could get Rush or BO to appear on a show with Al Franken or Amy Goodman. Or better yet: Rush, BO, and Michael Savage on the same show with Al Franken, Michael Moore, and Amy Goodman. Now that's something I would be willing to pay to see. And talk about getting "balance" in the media. Although I don't live anywhere near Chicago I have to go with the Cubs.

Rush is just mad they would not let his show on NPR, because they adhere to some standards.

NPR may be one of the few remaining broadcast outlets where stories are reported in a neutral transparent fashion; a true no-spin zone. The fallacy the righties keep pushing is that fairness and objectivity=leftist/liberal slanted and idealogically driven, intellectually dishonest, demagogery=fair and balanced. A whole lot of people evidently mistake Limbaugh's twisted distortions for factual info, which is scary.

BTW, Blueneck, I would also love so see a panel discussion like you mention, too bad the righties would never go for it; too much to lose when forced out of their comfy insulated little hidey-holes!

Let's Go Mets!

re: Limbaugh distorted Tomlinson resignation: "He was trying to get some conservative programming on NPR and PBS"

I was actually listening that day when Rush was discussing this...it's amazing how conservatives consider any news outlet that DOESN'T intentionally skew their news to the right to be liberal. So Tomlinson resigned...good riddance! At this stage NPR is one of the last sources of news that is truly unbiased. Wish I could say the same for CNN and MSNBC...both are rapidly becoming clones of FOX News!

And I'll have to go with the Mets as well.

I must add that my Diamondbacks won the Series in 2001 on Gonzo's bloop single over Jetah's head!

Once Again, Limbaugh the Liar Avoids the Truth

Kenneth Tomlinson resigned as CPB chairman because he may face criminal charges.

Padding the federal payroll with phantom employees -- that's a start. Even the New York Times (which broke the story) acknowledged that.

Hiring consultants to monitor PBS and NPR for conformity to right-wing views -- that's another.

As the Right-Wing Lyin' King may face criminal charges himself he doesn't dare bring up the obvious. Yes, those charges in Florida are still pending!
