What an appropriate NAME! These radio (and TV) boors are really enjoying the First Amendment. The strength of this country is that anyone can say anything without having to be prosecuted (er...persecuted) by the "other" media like MMFA.

Actually, leaving aside legal bits like "fighting words," bigoted speech is protected. The law makes a distinction between speech and conduct - so, for example, you are free to make all kinds of racist remarks about blacks but you are not free to refuse to serve them at a restaurant or hire them for a job due to the color of their skin.

More importantly here, the status of bigotry or bigoted speech as protected or not protected is irrelevant: MMFA is not calling for Boortz and Bozell to be imprisoned or fined, it is calling them out on their bigotry. Legalities simply do not arise.

What we invariably see, however, is the idiotic argument at which our Mad commenter hinted above, that speaking to express racist sentiments is free speech but speaking to object to racist sentiments is "persecution" and/or censorship. It's just a variation on the hoary wingnut argument that because of our belief in tolerance, we are obligated to tolerate their intolerance.

The really strange thing is that when they say stuff like this, they genuinely believe they're being clever.

Let me first state that I was not there when Boortz made these statements. People ask me why if I knew about these controversial statement didn't I just walk away.  Did I hear these statements?  Yes.  And let me say this - it's easy to take a few comments and play them over and over on a loop and make anyone seem radical.  But the main thing is this - I could no more turn my back on Boortz than I could turn my back on the entire talkshow community. Finally, let me bravely state that we need a conservation about this topic and really really need to confront the issues head on.

wow, unbelievable. this is my first post on this ridiculous website full of , for the most part, whiny extreme left wingers. i said for the most part. their are a handful of normal, thinking people on here. but i hear alot about this site on certain shows i listen to, so i thought i would check it out. what i found is just what i expected. a bunch of people, basically with no common sense. again, i say for the most part. some people are so hypocritical. ya know, its not rocket science. what neil boortz said, whether you agree with it or not, is protected by the first amendment. we can all be grown up, thinking people and make our own judgements about wheter it is right or wrong, correct? but the same people who bash him and anyone else for saying these things, will come on here and other websites like this, and bash him a thousand times worse for what he said... why can we do that?? This "website" is not the comments section.  What's so wrong with holding the media accountable for what they say again? And before you throw out the "FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!!!" line, do you not know that these screech monkeys are beholden to their advertisers?  If their advertisers don't like something, they can censor or even threaten to withhold their advertising dollars until said person is removed.  

Also, many posters here have vastly different beliefs and theories, so to lump all of us in as "for the most part, whiny extreme left wingers" is beyond inaccurate.  And I'm guessing the "shows" you mentioned include O'Reilly and others like him.  Try this...tell me where MMfA (the website, not the comments section) has taken him out of context?  I mean, they post the entire segment of the show that they find contains conservative misinformation, so it's O'Reilly's own words that he takes issue with?  Do you see the contradiction there?

What is laughable is this website encourages people to attack political commentary shows that typically take a center or right point of view because they excel in a media format that the left has never been able to conquer.  Then the icing on the cake is that the elitists on this site immediately brand anyone with a differing political opinion from their own as a "knuckle dragger" or "uneducated" when this place smacks of thick-rimmed glasses wearing, Starbucks drinking pseudo-intellectuals who very likely only have a couple classes at a second rate state school under their belt.  Simply because one asserts his opinion it does not lend it any sort of validity, in so doing your are every bit as bad as the radio personalities you resent.  I encourage any one of you to take Boortz to task on air, which is on 8:30am - 1pm EST.  If you disagree with him on whatever issue, tell the call screener and you are taken directly to the front of the line.   If he is such a simpleton as many of you suggest then clearly you'll deal with him handily between lattes. 

 

The very premise of this site is offensive, and what's worse is that many of you pat yourselves on the back because you think you are doing the public a service.  What is even more laughable is that you've created a feedback loop.  Boortz is on cloud 9 whenever this website mentions him.  This site calls attentions to his comments sending many of you to engage him as fodder for his show, which provides him more material and earns him more of an audience as he picks apart the weakest from this camp while on the air.  If you were truly as intelligent as you would like to suggest, you would shy away from these lightning rods because they thrive in your ire.  Each email you send to their shows is counter productive as they revel in it and it falls completely on deaf ears.  Each sponsor you drive away paves the way to new ones who know exactly what they are putting their money in to.
