NY Post's Ralph Peters ignored evidence undermining his claim that "finish[ing] off" bin Laden was "personal" for Bush

In a New York Post column about recent comments President-elect Barack Obama made concerning Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda, Ralph Peters claimed that, "Bush has done all he could to finish off the Al Qaeda leader (for Bush, it was personal; for Obama, it's just political)." But, in asserting that Bush "has done all he could to finish off" bin Laden, Peters ignored statements Bush has made denying the importance of capturing or killing bin Laden.

Conservative media attack Obama over reported intention to close Guantánamo Bay facility

Conservative media figures have baselessly asserted that President-elect Barack Obama's reported intention to close the detention facility at Guantánamo Bay would result in the release of terrorists and place the country at risk. In fact, news reports state that Obama is considering trials for some detainees and the potential release of others who have been cleared.

CNN's Carroll aired Cindy McCain's attack on Obama over troop funding without noting her husband's own vote

CNN's Jason Carroll aired Cindy McCain's claim that Sen. Barack Obama's "vote to not fund my son when he was serving sent a cold chill through my body." However, Carroll did not point out that Sen. John McCain himself voted against legislation to fund the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

MSNBC's Shuster's suggestion that Obama "bear[s] a certain responsibility to clarify" Jackson's Israel remarks is based on false distinction

MSNBC's David Shuster baselessly suggested Sen. Barack Obama "bear[s] a little bit of responsibility" for Jesse Jackson's reported comments about how U.S. policy toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would change under an Obama administration -- even though Jackson is not part of the Obama campaign -- because during the previous debate, Shuster said, Sen. John McCain was "pretty clear" in answering the question of whether the U.S. would commit troops to Israel if it was attacked by Iran, whereas Obama was not. In fact, Obama and McCain gave similar responses in key respects.
MSNBC.com's First Read again falsely claimed McCain "did not vote" against troop funding

MSNBC.com's First Read again falsely claimed that Sen. John McCain "opposed, but did not vote," on a 2007 troop-funding appropriations bill. In fact, while McCain did not vote on a later version of the appropriations bill, he voted against the measure on March 29, 2007, and said at the time that he was opposing it, in part, because it "would establish a timeline" for U.S. withdrawal from Iraq.
The CBS Evening News, Fox News' The Live Desk, and the Politico's Jonathan Martin noted Cindy McCain's attack on Sen.

On Lou Dobbs Tonight, Michael Goodwin and Lou Dobbs falsely claimed that Sen. Joe Biden was wrong when he said during the vice-presidential debate that Sen. John McCain "voted against funding the troops" in a 2007 bill making supplemental appropriations for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. In fact, McCain voted against a supplemental appropriations bill on March 29, 2007, saying at the time that he was opposing it, in part, because it "would establish a timeline" for U.S. withdrawal from Iraq.

Media again quote debate attack that Obama "voted against funding the troops" while omitting Dem response

The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times both reported Gov. Sarah Palin's attack during the vice-presidential debate that Sen. "Barack Obama voted against funding troops" without noting, as Sen. Joe Biden pointed out in response, that "[Sen.] John McCain voted the exact same way. John McCain voted against funding the troops because of an amendment he voted against had a timeline in it to draw down American troops."

UPDATED: CBSNews.com, MSNBC.com, FactCheck.org falsely claim McCain never voted against troop funding bill

In reports on the vice presidential debate, CBSNews.com, MSNBC.com, and FactCheck.org all falsely claimed that Sen. Joe Biden's statement that Sen. In fact, while McCain did not vote on a later version of the appropriations bill, he voted against the measure on March 29, 2007, and said at the time that he was opposing it, in part, because it "would establish a timeline" for U.S. withdrawal from Iraq.

ABC's Snow quoted Palin attacking Obama over troop-funding vote but left out key facts about McCain's voting record

ABC News correspondent Kate Snow uncritically quoted Gov. Sarah Palin's claim that Sen. Barack Obama voted for "[c]utting off funding for our troops while in a war zone." However, Snow did not report that Sen. John McCain voted against legislation to fund the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, as Obama noted during the September 26 presidential debate.

LA Times reported Vets for Freedom ad attacking Obama over troop funding vote, but ignored Obama's response and McCain's own record

The Los Angeles Times quoted a new Vets for Freedom ad that claims, "Barack Obama skipped 45% of Senate votes but did manage to show up to vote against emergency funding for our troops," but the Times failed to note that Sen. John McCain has voted against legislation to fund the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq -- a point Obama made during the first presidential debate when McCain accused him of voting against troop funding.

CNN aired clips of what correspondent Jim Acosta called a "new ad from John McCain" that "makes one of the most explosive charges of the campaign, accusing Barack Obama of endangering American soldiers by voting to cut off funds for the war." Despite mentioning that Obama said in the September 26 presidential debate that "he opposed that bill because it lacked a timeline for troop withdrawal," Acosta failed to note Obama also pointed out that McCain himself has voted against legislation to fund the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

KSFO's Rodgers, Sussman repeated false claim that Gorelick prevented FBI and CIA from coordinating to prevent 9-11 attacks

KSFO radio hosts Lee Rodgers and Brian Sussman repeated the falsehood that a 1995 memo written by then-deputy attorney general Jamie Gorelick prohibited intelligence-sharing between the FBI and the CIA, thereby causing the intelligence failures that led to the 9-11 attacks. In fact, the Gorelick memo merely clarified long-unwritten restrictions on the sharing of information between the FBI's intelligence arm and the Justice Department's criminal division, and had no impact on communications between the FBI and the CIA, Department of Defense, or any other agencies.
