Media react to sec. of state rumors with suggestions of a rogue Clinton agenda, Clinton as Obama's "enem[y]"

Discussing reports that President-elect Barack Obama is considering naming Sen. Hillary Clinton secretary of state, several media figures have responded with smears, including speculation that Clinton would pursue her own agenda as secretary of state and not Obama's, references to Clinton as Obama's "enem[y]," and speculation that Obama is considering the nomination because if Clinton remains in the Senate, she poses a threat of challenging him for the Democratic nomination in 2012 and can "mak[e] trouble" for him in the Senate.

CNN's Sanchez falsely suggested Democrats rarely discuss religion and their faith in God in public

CNN's Rick Sanchez falsely suggested that Democrats rarely discuss their religious faith, saying of Sen. Barack Obama's speech at the Apostolic Church of God in Chicago, "When was the last time that you saw a Democrat ... in church giving what appears to be a sermon to a congregation?" In fact, Media Matters for America has documented numerous examples of Democrats discussing their faith in churches and other public settings.

CNN's Sanchez noted O'Reilly falsehood about on-air complaints

On CNN's Out
in the Open, Rick Sanchez said Bill O'Reilly "told me on the
phone that nobody complained about the show that he had done on the air,"
referring to the radio show in which O'Reilly made controversial comments
about race. Sanchez continued: "Guess what? Somebody did complain on the
air to him directly." Sanchez then
aired audio of a caller's
complaint -- identified
by Media Matters -- about O'Reilly's race-related comments
during the same radio show.

O'Reilly told CNN that Harlem restaurant comments were "hatchet job by Media Matters"

On CNN's Out in the Open, Rick
Sanchez and CNN contributor Roland Martin discussed Bill O'Reilly's statement that he was
surprised there was "no difference" between Sylvia's restaurant in the Harlem
neighborhood of Manhattan and other New York restaurants, even though Sylvia's
is "run by blacks." Sanchez reported that during an "animated" phone
conversation, O'Reilly denied any "racial intent" in his comments and described
the story as "a hatchet job by Media
Matters."

CNN's Sanchez: Anbar is a "success, enough to have the president fly in there last week"

CNN correspondent Rick Sanchez stated that President Bush identified
Iraq's Anbar Province "as a place infested with Al
Qaeda," causing him to "sen[d] in more troops." Sanchez added: "The result:
success, enough to have the president fly in there last week." In fact, Bush
never left the heavily fortified base during his secret visit there to see the
changes he touted firsthand.
